About BTEC Director Carri Risner
My path to career and technical education administrator is definitely not a typical one. After moving to Boston, MA., I enrolled in and graduated from Newbury College with an Associates in Culinary Arts. From there I worked in Boston, Chicago, and Cape Cod, before deciding to move back to mid-Missouri and open my own restaurant, while also growing my own produce, selling it at the local farmers’ market, and operating a bakery.
As much as I loved owning a restaurant, five years was enough and I was ready for my next adventure – culinary and baking teacher. I embraced teaching and continued my education, achieving my Bachelors in Occupational Education and my Masters in CTE Administration. I served as a Master Teacher for Missouri’s New Teacher Institute for over six years. I am well-versed in problem-based learning, literacy strategies in CTE, employability development, and Cognitive Coaching. In fact, I have presented at the Russell Senate Building in Washington D.C., at ACTE Vision, and at the annual Making Schools Work Conference on school improvement for CTE.
Currently, I am incredibly proud to be the Director at Boonslick Technical Education Center and recently received the New Administrator of the Year award for the MO Council of Career and Technical Administrators. I am currently working on my Ed.S. in Professional Education and Leadership.
I am committed to helping our graduates make a meaningful change in their occupational future, which in turn helps our local community!
