Automotive Technology Laboratory Experience I & II

Maximum Capacity: 15 students per class
This course is designed to prepare students for an entry-level position as an automotive technician by providing the necessary career skills and knowledge. This is a two-year program that provides students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills needed in the automotive industry. Computer skills are necessary. Second-year students in Automotive Technology Theory II and Automotive Technology Laboratory II will have the option of participating in an internship during 2nd semester, where they will be able to go to a shop and gain hands-on experience. Students must have a comprehensive grade of C- or better and recommendation of the instructor in order to participate in an internship. Students will have the opportunity to take ASE and ACE tests in the following subject areas: Steering and suspension, brakes, electrical, engine performance, engine repair, automatic transmission, manual transmission, heating and a/c, maintenance light repair, and AST to earn industry recognized credentials.

Prerequisite: Must pass Communication Arts I & II and Algebra I.
In order to return to Automotive Technology Theory II, students must pass Automotive Technology Theory I with a grade of C- or better. Auto Technology I students must earn a C- or better at the end of 1st semester in order to remain in the class for second semester. Due to its limited class size, multiple measures including grades, test scores including the ASVAB, attendance, and discipline history will be considered along with a possible interview for placement into the program.
